General description

Biotin:avidin second antibody signal systems involve the conjugation of biotin to a secondary antibody. Once the secondary antibody binds to a target primary antibody in an immunochemical assay, the signal is developed by allowing avidin which has been conjugated to an enzyme or signal molecule to bind to the antibody associated biotin molecule.

Application

Water soluble biotinylation reagent. Typically coupled to primary amine in the pH range 6.5-8.5.

Cell adhesion to synthetic biomaterials is a prerequisite for anchorage cell culture and tissue engineering. The current study investigated utilization of an avidin-biotin binding system in enhancing chondrocyte adhesion to tissue culture polystyrene (TCPS). Biotinylated chondrocytes adhered to avidin-coated TCPS

Dehydrogenase enzymes are immobilized onto carbon-fiber microelectrode surfaces via avidin-biotin technology and a covalently linked hydrophilic tether. The avidin-biotin coupling strategy allows the selectivity of the electrochemical measurement to be easily changed without reoptimizing the immobilization conditions. Cell adhesion to a scaffold is a prerequisite for tissue engineering. Many studies have been focused on enhancing cell adhesion to synthetic materials that are used for scaffold fabrication. Previously, we showed that immobilization of biotin molecules to chondrocyte surfaces
