Application

La apo-transferrina humana se ha utilizado en la mezcla de medio Eagle modificado de Dulbecco/nutrientes F-12 para cultivar:
  • líneas celulares de adenocarcinoma ductal pancreático (PDAC)
  • oligodendrocitos
  • células epiteliales de los túbulos proximales renales (RPTEC/TERT1)

Se ha demostrado que la apo-transferrina inhibe fuertemente la adhesión bacteriana a los biomateriales, como el poliestireno, el polimetilmetacrilato y la silicona. La inhibición se observó a 20 µg/ml en medio de cultivo.

Biochem/physiol Actions

La transferrina transporta hierro mediante endocitosis mediada por receptores. El mecanismo de transporte del hierro se produce en las células endoteliales de la barrera hematoencefálica. La transferrina mantiene la homeostasis del hierro y es un marcador asociado al hierro. Se observan niveles reducidos de transferrina en estados graves de la COVID-19. Puede unirse a otras moléculas aparte del hierro, por lo que puede utilizarse en la administración dirigida de medicamentos.

General description

La transferrina es una glucoproteína bilobulada que contiene un lóbulo N-terminal y uno C-terminal. Cada uno de estos dominios se divide en dos subdominios y dentro de la hendidura del intersubdominio se encuentra el sitio de unión al metal. Una sola molécula de transferrina puede unirse a dos iones férricos. La apo-transferrina es una forma carente de hierro.
