Inhibiteur du transport mitochondrial.
La roténone est un inhibiteur de la chaîne mitochondriale de transport d'électrons au niveau du complexe nicotinamide-adénine-dinucléotide (NADH):ubiquinone oxydoréductase. Elle est facilement absorbée à travers l'exosquelette des arthropodes, mais mal absorbée via la peau ou le tractus gastro-intestinal des mammifères. La roténone agit comme un agent neurotoxique qui provoque une pathologie de type Parkinson pouvant servir de modèle animal pour étudier l'étiologie et les interventions de cette maladie. Le principal mécanisme d'action de la roténone consiste à inhiber le complexe I, puis à générer un stress oxydatif et des dommages oxydatifs. Du fait de sa lipophilie, la roténone pénètre facilement dans le cerveau, où elle se fixe au complexe I mitochondrial de la chaîne de transport d'électrons (CTE) et l'inhibe.

General description

Rotenone is a contact insecticide and a slow stomach poison, extremely potent against many insects. It is widely used against Varroa Jacobsoni mite, affecting colonies of honey bees.
