General description

Fetal bovine serum (FBS), a traditional serum supplement, is used in animal cell culture media. It is obtained from the fetus of the cow.

Application

FBS Superior has been used:
  • as a component of differentiation medium, growth medium, induction medium, and Dulbecco′s modified Eagle medium (DMEM) for murine thermogenic adipocytes culture
  • as a component of the culture medium along with DMEM high glucose (HG) for cell viability check
  • as a component of minimum essential medium Eagle (MEM) to cultivate Caco-2 human colon adenocarcinoma cells

Biochem/physiol Actions

Fetal bovine serum(FBS) Superior is a South American source of FBS supplemented with various growth-promoting compounds to allow for a more consistent product. This supplementation can reduce or eliminate the need to test multiple batches on specific cell lines. FBS Superior can be used just like regular FBS, delivers nutrients, growth, and attachment factors, and protects cells from oxidative damage and apoptosis by mechanisms that are difficult to reproduce in serum-free media (SFM) systems.

Fetal bovine serum (FBS) comprises growth factors (GFs) and other elements that are required for the expansion, maintenance, attachment, and proliferation of adipose-derived stromal cells (ASC) in vitro.

Adipose-derived stromal cells (ASCs) are being used extensively in clinical trials. These trials require that ASCs are prepared using good manufacturing practices (GMPs) and are safe for use in humans. The majority of clinical trials in which ASCs are expanded
