General description
C12 Sphingosyl PE (d17:1/12:0) or N-lauroyl-D-erythro-sphingosyl phosphoethanolamine (C17 base) is a synthetic phosphosphingolipid. Sphingosyl phosphoethanolamine (PE) is a derivative of sphingosine, wherein C-2 amine and C-1 hydroxyl groups of sphingosine backbone are substituted with lauric acid and PE groups, respectively.
Application
C12 Sphingosyl PE (d17:1/12:0) or N-lauroyl-D-erythro-sphingosyl phosphoethanolamine (C17 base) may be used:
- as a lipid internal standard for Folch lipid extraction
- as an internal standard for the extraction of lipids using Bligh and Dyer method
- used as a standard to quantify ceramide phosphoethanolamine (CerPE) lipids present in Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron

Ceramide phosphoethanolamine (CPE), a sphingomyelin analog, is a major sphingolipid in invertebrates and parasites, whereas only trace amounts are present in mammalian cells. In this study, mushroom-derived proteins of the aegerolysin family—pleurotolysin A2 (PlyA2; K(D) = 12 nM), ostreolysin (Oly;
