General description

Cellvento® CHO-200 is a chemically defined, non-animal origin cell culture medium specially developed for the growth of Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells and the expression of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) and recombinant proteins in suspension culture. The medium is formulated without L-glutamine, hypoxanthine, thymidine, and sodium bicarbonate to keep flexibility for use across diverse CHO expression systems, including GS (glutamine synthetase), DHFR amplification, and antibiotic resistance approaches. It contains no hydrolysates or components of unknown composition, resulting in very good lot-to-lot consistency, full traceability of raw materials from qualified suppliers, and a well-defined formulation supporting biopharmaceutical manufacturing development. It is designed for fed-batch upstream bioprocessing. Cellvento® CHO-200 is specifically validated for CHO-S cells (including the CHO-S GS expression system), and may also be suitable for other CHO cell lines. It is supporting consistent and scalable upstream bioprocessing from early process development through biotherapeutic manufacturing.

Application

Cellvento® CHO-200 medium and its companion feeds are designed primarily for use in the CHO-S GS expression system in suspension cell culture, but may also be suitable for other CHO-S cell lines. For CHO-DHFR⁻ and slow-growing cell lines, Cellvento® CHO-210 is recommended; for CHO-K1 cell lines, Cellvento® CHO-220 is recommended. Key applications include:
  • Cell adaptation: Supports direct or sequential media adaptation of CHO cells from serum-containing or alternative media formulations into a fully chemically defined, non-animal origin suspension culture system.
  • Cell banking: Optimized for cryopreservation of CHO cell banks (5×10⁶–1×10⁷ viable cells/mL) using a 90:10 Cellvento CHO-200/DMSO freezing medium. Supports generation of high-viability master and working cell banks for biotherapeutic manufacturing programs.
  • Seed train expansion: Supports consistent and scalable seed train expansion from cryovial thaw through inoculum build, maintaining target viable cell densities and doubling times across multiple passages prior to production culture inoculation.
  • Fed-batch production: Designed as the production medium for fed-batch upstream bioprocessing when used with companion feeds and supplements at empirically determined feed volumes and intervals.
  • Batch and perfusion: Compatible with batch and perfusion modes of CHO-based bioproduction, in addition to the primary fed-batch application.


This product is intended for research or further manufacturing but not for human or therapeutic use.

  • Scalable Dry Powder: Available in 10 L and 100 L packs (23.2 g/L reconstitution); simplifies scale-up from bench to commercial scale with reduced shipping volume.
  • Flexible Fed-Batch with Feed-200: Paired with Cellvento® Feed-200 (2–6% v/v) and Cys/Tyr supplement for modular, DOE-based feed optimization without reformulating base medium.
  • Cellvento® CHO Platform: Integrates with CHO-210 (CHO-DHFR⁻) and CHO-220 (CHO-K1) for cross-cell-line process development within a consistent media family.
  • Emprove® GMP Documentation: COA, COQ, and Emprove® Dossiers via EmproveSuite.com accelerate raw-material qualification and regulatory inspections.
  • Reconstituted Medium Stability: Stable ≥90 days at 2–8 °C (unsupplemented); up to 4 weeks post-supplementation.

Preparation Note

Formulated to contain 115.8 grams of powder per liter of medium.
