General description

A semi-synthetic cyclic polypeptide antibiotic that is active against vancomycin-resistant gram-positive bacteria, including enterococci and Staphylococcus aureus (MIC50 = 0.13 µg/ml). Its bactericidal activities have been attributed to its role in disruption of membrane potential and increased efflux of potassium ions from bacterial cells, which lead to disruption of protein, DNA, and RNA synthesis. Exhibits superior bactericidal properties compared to vancomycin (Cat. No. 627850) even in the presence of serum.
