General description

Native 7S nerve growth factor from mouse submaxillary glands. Promotes neuron survival and neurite outgrowth in newborn rat brain. Composed of three subunits (α:β:γ) 2:1:2. The α-subunit is an inactive serine proteinase and the γ-subunit is an active serine proteinase capable of processing the precursor form of β-NGF.

Biochem/physiol Actions

ED₅₀: Determined by half maximal growth of PC12 cells. Please see vial label for lot-specific ED₅₀.

Physical form

Lyophilized from sterile H₂O.

Preparation Note

Following reconstitution, aliquot and freeze (-20°C). Stock solutions are stable for 2 weeks at -20°C.
The 7S NGF complex will dissociate in acidic or basic buffers, so it is critical that the pH of the reconstitution buffer be neutral.
