General description
Native holo-transferrin from bovine plasma. Transferrin is a major iron binding protein and is found in human plasma or serum at concentrations of 3 mg/ml. Its concentration correlates with the total iron binding capacity of serum and its level is regulated by the availability of iron. It has bacteriostatic and fungistatic activity and is essential for iron utilization by the hemin-synthesizing reticulocytes. Stored in bone marrow as Tf-bound iron.

Preparation Note
Following reconstitution, aliquot and freeze (-20°C) for long-term storage or add NaN₃ and refrigerate (4°C) for short-term storage. Stock solutions are stable for up to 1 year at -20°C or for up to 2 weeks at 4°C.
