General description

Skeletal muscle, besides being an organ for energy storage, is also actively involved in the synthesis and secretion of many proteins. These secretory proteins can be collectively termed as “myokines”. Muscle contraction during physical activity is an important activator of the release of the myokines. Myokines not only can act in autocrine and/or paracrine manner in regulation of skeletal muscle growth, but they can also act as endocrine hormones to mediate inter-organ crosstalk. The myokine theory provides molecular mechanistic explanations for the exercise-induced metabolic changes in liver and adipose tissue as well as the profound changes in immune and neuron systems.

Application

MILLIPLEX® Qualified assays undergo rigorous assay development, verification, and Quality Control testing to achieve optimal performance. Simultaneously analyze up to 15 analytes in human serum, plasma, or cell/tissue culture supernatant samples.
Analytes included: Apelin, BDNF, Erythropoietin (EPO), FABP3, FGF-21, Fractalkine/CX3CL1, FSTL1, IL-6, IL-15, Irisin, LIF, Myostatin/GDF8, Oncostatin-M (OSM), Osteocrin (OSTN)/Musclin, Osteonectin/SPARC
