Due to its increasing demand many green methods have been proposed for its synthesis mainly using the inexpensive glycerol as the starting material. It is a raw material for the synthesis of intermediates, building blocks and polymers.
Application
1,2-Propanediol may be used in the following processes:
- Green synthesis of propylene carbonate.
- Production of lactic acid by green catalytic oxidation.
- Propanal generation by catalytic dehydration.
