Application

Le triméthoprime est principalement utilisé comme agent antibactérien. Il possède une activité d'inhibition de la dihydrofolate réductase avec une sélectivité pour l'enzyme procaryote. Il est utilisé dans le traitement des infections urinaires, des prostatites aigües modérées, des cystites chroniques, des bactériuries asymptomatiques gravidiques et des infections respiratoires.
Produit principalement utilisé comme agent antibactérien. Inhibiteur de la dihydrofolate réductase présentant une sélectivité pour l'enzyme procaryote.

Biochem/physiol Actions

L'association triméthoprime/sulfaméthoxazole perturbe le métabolisme cellulaire de l'acide folique chez la bactérie en inhibant la biosynthèse des nucléotides. Le triméthoprime se fixe à la dihydrofolate réductase et inhibe la réduction de l'acide dihydrofolique (DHF) en acide tétrahydrofolique (THF). Le THF est un précurseur essentiel de la voie de synthèse de la thymidine et toute perturbation de cette voie inhibe la synthèse de l'ADN bactérien.
