Application

トリメトプリムは主として抗細菌剤として使用されます。 原核生物酵素に選択的な、ジヒドロ葉酸還元酵素阻害活性を有しています。 尿路感染症、軽度の急性前立腺炎、再発性膀胱炎、妊娠中の無症候性細菌尿および気道感染症の治療に使用されます。
主に抗菌剤として使用されています。ジヒドロ葉酸レダクタ-ゼに対するインヒビタ-で、原核生物細胞の酵素に対して選択的です。

Biochem/physiol Actions

トリメトプリムとスルファメトキサゾールの組み合わせは、ヌクレオチドの生合成を阻害することで細菌細胞内の葉酸の細胞代謝を阻害します。 トリメトプリムはジヒドロ葉酸還元酵素に結合し、ジヒドロ葉酸（DHF）のテトラヒドロ葉酸（THF）への還元を阻害します。THF はチミジン合成経路における極めて重要な前駆体であり、この経路の阻害により細菌の DNA 合成が阻害されます。
