ポリエチレンイミン（PEI）は、非ウイルス性のヌクレオチド送達試薬として広く使用されている 親水性カチオン性ポリマーです。分岐状PEIは、アジリジンのカチオン開環重合により 合成できます。PEIベースの粒子は、 ワクチンのアジュバントとしても使用できます。その優れた物理化学的特性により、 タンパク質の分離・精製、二酸化炭素の吸収、薬物担体、 廃液処理および生物学的標識など、 幅広い分野で応用されています。

Application

ポリエチレンイミンは、治療用核酸のin vivo送達用の非ウイルス性の合成ポリマーベクターとして使用できます。負に帯電した核酸と正に帯電したポリマー主鎖間の相互作用により、ナノサイズの複合体が形成されます。この中和された複合体は、封入した核酸を酵素から保護し、細胞への取り込みが生じるまで、その安定性を維持します。たとえば、ヒト血清アルブミン結合PEIは、良好なpDNAのトランスフェクションと低い毒性を示します。

PEIを使用すると、単層ナノチューブ（SWNT）に官能基を付加して、元のSWNTの構造的完全性を維持しながら、溶解性と生体適合性を向上できます。共有結合により官能基を付加したSWNTは、CO2吸収と遺伝子送達に応用されています。

分岐状PEIは、吸着剤の表面特性の修飾にも使用できます。PEI修飾の含水酸化ジルコニウム／PANナノファイバーは、高いフッ素吸着能と作業中に幅広いpH範囲を示すため、地下水の脱フッ素化に使用されます。
