DMFは以下として使用できます：     

• 有機金属化合物のホルミル化剤。
• オキシ塩化リンと反応させてビルスマイヤー試薬を調製するための反応体。
• カリウムt-ブトキシドの存在下でアリールクロリドをアミノ化するための試薬。     
• 金属コロイドを調製するための金属塩の還元剤。
• 保護されていない炭水化物の位置選択的シリル化のための触媒。

DMFは以下でも使用できます：     

• DMF-ホスゲン触媒システムを用いて、アルコールからハロゲン化アルキルを調製。      
• DMF-POCl₃を用いて、非環式および環式エノール化可能なケトンをβ-クロロ-α, β-不飽和アルデヒドに変換。
• DMF-POCl₃を用いて、アシルアニリドからキノリン-3-カルバルデヒドを合成。      
• DMF-SOCl₂の組み合わせを用いて、オキシムをニトリルに脱水。      
• DMF-Ag₂Oで、α-ブロモプロピオンアミドをオキサゾリジノンに変換
• DMFは、高い溶解力を必要とする多くの化学反応で溶媒としてよく使用されます。
