General description
プトレシンは、死組織における脂肪酸代謝の最終産物です。刺激臭のある揮発性のジアミンです。オルニチン脱炭酸酵素の存在下、オルニチンの脱炭酸反応によって合成されます。分子ドッキング実験では、嗅上皮に存在するヒト微量アミン関連受容体（TAAR6およびTAAR8）へのプトレシンの結合が明らかにされています。
Application
プトレシン二塩酸塩は、マウス神経節、網膜神経節細胞培養そしてオルニチン脱炭酸酵素（ODC）アッセイ用のHCT116大腸癌細胞のためのF-12 + GlutaMax培地中の成分として使用されています。

プトレシンは、植物におけるストレスマーカーとして利用されます。プトレシンの外部補給は、小麦植物の乾燥ストレスからの克服を助けます。プトレシンは、動物における細胞増殖に欠かせないもので、Arabidopsisの寒冷ストレスにおけるアブシジン酸（ABA）レベルを調節します。また、害虫の誘引剤として機能します。
