Application
Methyl cellulose has been used:
- as a supplement for culturing multicellular spheroids of SH-SY5Y cells
- as a supplement for culturing tumor cell spheroids
- to generate and study the rheological behavior of aqueous mullite-albumin-methylcellulose systems
Biochem/physiol Actions
Methyl cellulose (MC) acts as a laxative and is hydrophilic. It has therapeutic effects against constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, and diverticulosis due to its bulk-forming and stool softening properties. MC has the potential to treat patients with ileostomies and colostomies. It may also be used as a stabilizer and emulsifier. MC is a component of eye drops and contact lens solutions.
General description
Methyl cellulose (MC) is a simple derivative of cellulose.

NMDA receptors (NMDARs) play subunit-specific roles in synaptic function and are implicated in neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. However, the in vivo consequences and therapeutic potential of pharmacologically enhancing NMDAR function via allosteric modulation are largely unknown. We examine the in vivo effects
