Biochem/physiol Actions

El kit de cuantificación del colesterol también puede utilizarse para determinar la concentración de colesterol libre, ésteres de colesterol, o ambos (total), presentes en una muestra En este kit, la concentración de colesterol total se determina mediante un análisis enzimático acoplado, que da lugar a un producto colorimétrico (570 nm) o fluorométrico (λex = 535/λem = 587 nm), proporcional al colesterol presente.

General description

El colesterol es un importante componente de las membranas celulares de los mamíferos, donde interviene en el transporte intracelular, la comunicación celular y el mantenimiento de la fluidez de la membrana. En la sangre, el colesterol circula o bien en forma libre o bien como ésteres de colesterol. El control del colesterol sérico tiene un importante papel terapéutico ya que concentraciones elevadas de colesterol están asociadas con el desarrollo de aterosclerosis y enfermedades cardiovasculares. Evidencias recientes sugieren que la alteración de la homeostasis del colesterol contribuye al desarrollo de un estado inflamatorio crónico.

El colesterol se produce predominantemente en el hígado. Concentraciones anómalas de colesterol están implicadas en las coronariopatías. El colesterol está asociado con la progresión o la inhibición del cáncer de mama. Las células tumorales son capaces de sintetizar su propio colesterol, lo que ayuda a la proliferación celular. Se han observado concentraciones elevadas de colesterol en cánceres, en especial en el cáncer de próstata. En la obesidad se observa colesterol sérico elevado.

  5. Can these kits be used with serum samples from mouse?

    Yes, this kit can be used on mouse serum samples. We generally recommend that fresh serum samples be used. Frozen samples can probably be used. However, the successful use of frozen samples depends on the efficiency of freezing them and the amount of time they have been frozen. If previously frozen serum samples are used, you may want to check the performance of the kit with fresh vs. frozen samples.
