      DescriptionAnti-Leo1 Antibody
      Alternate Names
      • Leo1, Paf1/RNA polymerase II complex component, homolog
      • Leo1, Paf1/RNA polymerase II complex component, homolog (S.cerevisiae)
      • Replicative senescence down-regulated leo1-like protein
      • replicative senescence downregulated leo1-like
      • senescence downregulated leo1-like
Background InformationLeo1, which is highly expressed in the nucleus of both skeletal muscle and heart tissues, as well in the placenta and liver, is one of four subunits that make up the PAF1/RNA polymerase II transcription. The PAF1/RNA polymerase II transcription complex has been shown to aid in the regulation of transcriptional elongation, histone methylation, and RNA processing. Deletion of Leo1 by itself leads to few obvious phenotypes. However, in combination with a PAF1 deletion, the additional deletion of the Leo1 protein suppresses several phenotypes which result from the defective PAF1 complex and a block in transcription. Conversely, when the Leo1 protein is overexpressed, it has also been shown to induce arrest of cell growth and the premature senescence of fibroblasts.

      Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummaryLEO1, parafibromin (CDC73; MIM 607393), CTR9 (MIM 609366), and PAF1 (MIM 610506) form the PAF protein complex that associates with the RNA polymerase II subunit POLR2A (MIM 180660) and with a histone methyltransferase complex (Rozenblatt-Rosen et al., 2005 [PubMed 15632063]).

      UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: The PAF1 complex is a multifunctional complex. The PAF1 complex interacts with POLR2A. May be involved in both initiation and elongation, histone methylation and RNA processing. Overexpression of LEO1 induces cell growth arrest and premature senescence of fibroblasts. SUBUNIT STRUCTURE: Component of the PAF1 complex, which consists of at least of CDC73, PAF1, LEO1 and CTR9. Interacts with CDC73.
      SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus.
TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Highly expressed in skeletal muscle and heart. Weakly expressed in placenta and liver.
SEQUENCE SIMILARITIES: Belongs to the LEO1 family.
      Molecular Weight~110 kDa
