Biochem/physiol Actions

Un antibiotique β-lactamine avec groupement amine sur une chaîne latérale fixée à la structure de la pénicilline. Dérivé de la pénicilline qui inhibe la synthèse de la paroi bactérienne (réticulation des peptidoglycanes) en inactivant les transpeptidases situées sur la face interne de la membrane bactérienne. Bactéricide uniquement sur Escherichia coli en développement. Mode de résistance : clivage de l′anneau β-lactame de l′ampicilline par la β-lactamase. Spectre antimicrobien : bactéries Gram-négatif et Gram-positif.

Application

Used to select for ampicillin resistance in mutated and transformed cells.
