General description
Ammonium bicarbonate is an inorganic salt commonly used in the food industry. It can be generated by the interaction of gaseous carbon dioxide and aqueous ammonia. The addition of ammonium bicarbonate to microbial fuel cells (MFCs) has been reported to improve its functioning by altering the porosity and pore distribution of catalyst layers. A recent study reports the use of bubble column evaporator (BCE) based analysis of its thermal degradation in aqueous solution.
Application
Ammonium bicarbonate (AMBIC) was used in the following studies:
- To derivatize histone proteins from human monocyte-derived macrophages (MDM) by propionylation.
- Destaining of silver-stained proteins in polyacrylamide gel bands during the peptide mass profiling using a mass spectrometer.
- Digestion of proteins isolated from Xenopus egg extracts in coomassie blue-stained gel bands during the analysis of microtubule-binding proteins.

Wallerian degeneration and nerve regeneration after injury are complex processes involving many genes, proteins and cytokines. After different peripheral nerve injuries the regeneration rate can differ. Whether this is caused by differential expression of genes and proteins during Wallerian degeneration

Histones and their post-translational modifications impact cellular function by acting as key regulators in the maintenance and remodeling of chromatin, thus affecting transcription regulation either positively (activation) or negatively (repression). In this study we describe a comprehensive, bottom-up proteomics approach

Microtubule-binding proteins are conveniently divided into two large groups: MAPs (microtubule-associated proteins), which can stabilize, anchor, and/or nucleate microtubules, and motors, which use the energy of ATP hydrolysis for a variety of functions, including microtubule network organization and cargo transportation
