General description
Les tampons Tris jouent un rôle déterminant dans certaines techniques comme l'électrophorèse des protéines et le western blotting, et sont employés dans les tampons à faible force ionique pour le transfert des protéines. On les retrouve aussi souvent dans les gels de SDS-PAGE, les tampons de migration et les tampons de blotting. Par ailleurs les sels de Tris, en particulier les tampons TAE et TBE, sont énormément utilisés dans l'électrophorèse de l'ADN sur gel d'agarose. Ces tampons sont essentiels à diverses applications, notamment la biochimie, la purification des protéines et l'électrophorèse, ce qui montre la polyvalence et l'importance du Tris HCl dans le maintien d'un pH optimal pour la recherche en biochimie et en biologie cellulaire.

The pH of Trizma hydrochloride in water is dependent on the concentration. The pH of a 0.1 M aqueous solution is approximately 4.7 while the pH of a 40% (w/w) aqueous solution is typically 2.6-3.3.

Is Product T3253, Trizma® hydrochloride, the same as Tris buffer?
No. Trizma HCl in solution at 0.05 M will produce a pH of approximately 4.7, but will have little if any buffering capacity. Trizma Base in solution at 0.05 M will produce a pH of approximately 10.4, but will have little if any buffering capacity. Blending Trizma Base and Trizma HCl will produce any desired pH between 7 and 9, with a reasonable buffering capacity.
