      Background InformationBridging integrator 3 (UniProt: Q9NQY0; also known as Bin3) is encoded by the BIN3 gene (Gene ID: 55909) in human. Bin3 is a cytoskeletal protein that is ubiquitously expressed except in brain and is involved in cytokinesis and septation where it has a role in the localization of F-actin. It contain one BAR domain (aa 9-232), which forms coiled-coil structures. The BAR domain interacts with and facilitates tubulation of curved membranes and also binds to small GTPases and other cell regulatory proteins in the cytosol and nucleus. Deletion of Bin3 in mice is shown to cause cataracts associated with actin defects. Bin 3 I shown to suppress lymphoma during aging and restricts the efficiency of lung carcinogenesis. It is also shown to restrict the proliferation and motility of oncogenically transformed cells. (Ref.: Ramalingam, A., et al. (2008). Cancer Res. 68 (6): 1683-1690).
