DescriptionPurified mouse monoclonal antibody generated by immunizing BALB/c mice with the specified immunogen and fusing splenocytes with NSO/1 mouse myeloma cells (see application references). Recognizes the ~130 kDa α-subunit of the IGF-I receptor protein.
BackgroundThe insulin growth factor (IGF) family, which includes IGF-I and IGF-II, binds to the IGF receptors (IGFRs) to mediate a number of biological effects. At least six IGF binding proteins (IGFBP-1-6) have also been identified which complex with the IGFs to modulate interactions with the receptors in either a stimulatory or inhibitory manner. Expression of these proteins is regulated during development, and is both tissue and cell specific. IGF-I exhibits potent effects on motor neuron survival, modulates neurotransmitter activity, and reduces apoptosis during normal development and axotomy. In addition, IGF-I serves a neuroprotective role against β-amyloid induced toxicity. It has also been demonstrated that IGF-I, IGF-II, and several IGFBPs are spatiotemporally regulated following hypoxic-ischemic brain injuries.
