DescriptionImmunoaffinity purified rabbit polyclonal antibody. Recognizes the ~67 kDa Munc-18 protein.
BackgroundMunc-18 is a neuron-specific protein of ~67 kDa and is known for its ability to bind with syntaxin and also to copurify with neuronal Cdc2-like kinase. Munc-18 plays a key role in synaptic vesicle fusion events with the plasma membrane. Due to its ability to be expressed in postmitotic neurons of adult human brain and in tumors of neuronal origin, it has been suggested that Munc-18 may be an important molecular tool in understanding the growth and differentiation of the nervous system in general. Two Munc-18 isoforms have been identified. Munc-18-1 is primarily expressed in brain, while Munc-18-2 is expressed in most tissues.
