      BackgroundPax3 is a transcription factor involved in myogenesis. It has been shown to bind calmyrin, the EF-hand calcium binding protein, and Daxx, a transcriptional co-repressor. Chromosomal translocation resulting in the Pax3-FKHR fusion protein may play a role in alveolar rhabdomyo-sarcoma development.
