Prevents lesion-induced death of motor neurons in adults. Reported to increase K+ currents in SK-N-SH neuroblastoma cells.

Neuronal survival factor that is known to promote the survival and differentiation of a variety of neuronal cell lines. Prevents lesion-induced death of motor neurons in adults. Promotes the survival of chick ciliary neurons in vitro and of neuronal cell lines, such as IMR 32. Present in large quantities in non-neuronal cells of peripheral nerves. Reported to increase K+ currents in SK-N-SH neuroblastoma cells.

      SolubilityH₂O and most aqueous buffers. The recommended concentration of CNTF stock solutions is 1 µg/100 µl with effective concentrations of 0.01-10.0 ng/ml of medium. For more dilute samples, addition of a stabilizing protein, such as BSA (100 µg/ml) is recommended.
