DescriptionRecombinant, rat ciliary neurotrophic factor expressed in E. coli. Neuronal survival factor that is known to promote the survival and differentiation of a variety of neuronal cell lines. Prevents lesion-induced death of motor neurons in adults. Promotes the survival of chick ciliary neurons in vitro and of neuronal cell lines, such as IMR 32. Present in large quantities in non-neuronal cells of peripheral nerves. Reported to increase K+ currents in SK-N-SH neuroblastoma cells.
