Peptide sequence (amino acids 154-165) from myristoylated alanine-rich C-kinase substrate (MARCKS) protein phosphorylation site domain (PSD). Contains the first two of the four serine residues in the PSD. Phosphorylated by protein kinase C (including PKCα and β, naturally-occurring PKC δ, ε, and θ, as well as atypical PKC ξ) at Ser5 and Ser9, even though atypical PKCs do not utilize intact MARCKS as a substrate. Poor substrate for CaM kinase I, CaM kinase II, CaM kinase III, protein kinase A, and protein kinase G.
