A cell-permeable isoquinolinone compound that acts as a potent inhibitor of poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase-1 (IC50 = 450 nM for bovine recombinant PARP-1). Exhibits neuroprotective effects against ischemia both in vitro (IC50 = 150 nM in cultured murine cortical cells) and in vivo (3 mg/kg i.p. in a rat transient focal ischemia model). Reported to be ~20-fold more potent than DPQ (Cat. No. 300270).
