A tetrapeptide that acts as a natural inhibitor of pluripotent hematopoietic stem cell proliferation. Protects bone marrow against chemotherapeutic agents, ionizing radiations, hyperthermy, or phototherapy-induced toxicity. Inhibits cardiac fibroblast proliferation, collagen synthesis, and activation of p42/p44 MAP kinases. Cleaved to an inactive form by angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE).

DescriptionA tetrapeptide that acts as a natural inhibitor of pluripotent hematopoietic stem cell proliferation. Blocks the entry of hematopoietic stem cells into the cell cycle. It appears to be inactive on actively cycling cells and is only capable of maintaining quiescent cells in the G0 phase of the cell cycle. Reported to protect bone marrow against chemotherapeutic agents, ionizing radiations, hyperthermia, or phototherapy-induced toxicity in mice. Also reported to inhibit cardiac fibroblast proliferation, collagen synthesis, and activation of p42/p44 MAPK activity. Shown to be cleaved to an inactive form by angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE).
