Application

Calcium carbonate has been utilized by plants and animal for the formation of their skeletons and shells. It also facilitates the calcium carbonate crystal growth on a chitosan substrate.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Calcium carbonate is a naturally occurring compound that reduces T4 absorption and enhancess serum thyrotropin levels. It also precludes osteoporosis induced by thyrotropin-suppressive doses of levothyroxine in postmenopausal women. Additionally, it reduces diarrhea in individuals with protease inhibitor-induced HIV-infection.

The endoskeletal spicules of sea urchin larvae are composed of calcite, a surrounding extracellular matrix, and small amounts of occluded matrix proteins. The spicules are formed by primary mesenchyme cells (PMCs) in the blastocoel of the embryo, where they adopt

The effect of calcium carbonate on the absorption of levothyroxine has not been studied systematically. Such a potential drug interaction merits investigation because concurrent treatment with both drugs is common, particularly in postmenopausal women. To investigate the potential interference of

The Cnidaria are simple organisms that have remarkable physiological features susceptible to microscopic investigation. As a group they produce cnidae, the most complex intracellular organelles known, form symbioses with a range of unicellular algae, contain mucocytes that account for a
