General description
Albumin is the most abundant plasma protein in humans. High levels of albumin are associated with dehydration. Albumin turnover is seen in infants with iron deficiency anemia. Serum albumin is a reliable prognostic indicator for liver disease. Oxidative damage of albumin is associated with advanced liver disease.
Application
Bovine Serum Albumin has been used as a supplement in Dulbecco′s modified eagle medium (DMEM). It has also been used in immunostaining of cell arrays.
Suitable for growth of Borrelia burgdorferi in BSK II medium

Preparation Note
ヒートショック分画法を用いて調製
血清アルブミンはフラクション（画分）Vと呼ばれる場合があります。この命名規則は、冷エタノール沈殿を用いて血清タンパク質を分画するオリジナルのCohn（コーン）法から取られています。血清アルブミンは、Cohn法を用いて第5エタノール画分に認められました。それ以来、「フラクションV」という用語は、調製の方法に関係なく血清アルブミンを記述するのに使用されています。他の人はこの用語を使用して、オリジナルのCohn法が記述されて以降大幅に改変されたエタノール分画法により精製された血清アルブミンのことを記述しています。Sigma-Aldrichは、真のCohn分画法、改変エタノール分画法、熱ショックやクロマトグラフィーなど様々な主要方法で精製された血清アルブミンを製造および販売しています。さらなる精製ステップには、結晶化や活性炭ろ過が含まれる場合があります。
