General description
ウシ血清アルブミン（BSA）は、ウシ肝臓で産生される血漿タンパク質であり、球状の非グリコシル化αらせん構造を有します。BSAは、架橋結合ジスルフィドブリッジを形成してその構造を安定させている583のアミノ酸残基と17のシステイン残基を有する、単独のポリペプチド鎖で構成されています。BSAタンパク質は、構造的に異なる3つのドメイン（I、II、およびIII）からなり、各ドメインは2つのサブドメイン（AおよびB）を有し、ハート型の構造を呈します。
Preparation Note
血清アルブミンはフラクション（画分）Vと呼ばれる場合があります。この命名規則は、冷エタノール沈殿を用いて血清タンパク質を分画するオリジナルのCohn（コーン）法から取られています。血清アルブミンは、Cohn法を用いて第5エタノール画分に認められました。それ以来、「フラクションV」という用語は、調製の方法に関係なく血清アルブミンを記述するのに使用されています。他の人はこの用語を使用して、オリジナルのCohn法が記述されて以降大幅に改変されたエタノール分画法により精製された血清アルブミンのことを記述しています。Sigma-Aldrichは、真のCohn分画法、改変エタノール分画法、熱ショックやクロマトグラフィーなど様々な主要方法で精製された血清アルブミンを製造および販売しています。さらなる精製ステップには、結晶化や活性炭ろ過が含まれる場合があります。
