ウシ皮膚由来のI型コラーゲン-FITC標識体は、I型コラーゲンゲル化分析に使用されています。また、さまざまな実験的研究で、細胞を播種するためにシリコーン弾性膜のコーティングに使用されています。細胞培養物中の哺乳類コラゲナーゼ活性を分析する目的で、基質としても使用できます。
