絨毛膜絨毛組織培養型胎盤の培地サプリメントとして
マウス卵巣での移植用ホルモン・ペレットの構成成分として
ヒト単核球細胞株THP-1での免疫関連GTPアーゼM (IRGM)発現の誘導のため

Biochem/physiol Actions

パルミチン酸は、直鎖の16炭素脂肪酸です。パルミチン酸が豊富な食事は、ラウリン酸およびミリスチン酸とともに、低密度リポタンパク質コレステロールの血清レベルの増加と関連しています。パルミチン酸は、脂質生成によって生成される最初の脂肪酸です。これは、アセチルCoAカルボキシラーゼ（ACC）の負の調節因子であり、脂肪酸誘導インスリン抵抗性に関与しています。

パルミチン酸（PA）は、膜リン脂質（PL）および脂肪トリアシルグリセロール（TAG）の成分です。パルミチン酸レベルの上昇は、アテローム性動脈硬化症、2型糖尿病、神経変性疾患、肥満、がんの病態生理に寄与します。 PAは、p38マイトジェン活性化プロテインキナーゼ（MAPK）経路を調節することにより内皮細胞のアポトーシスを促進し、TNF-αの発現と活性酸素種の蓄積を促進します。 PAは、肝炎症に寄与する肝細胞のインターロイキン8（IL-8）合成を促進します。 PAは、toll-like receptor 4（TLR4）と相互作用することにより、心筋細胞の炎症性損傷を誘発します。
