General description

Albumin is present abundantly in serum. Porcine serum albumin (PSA) comprises a flexible C-terminal region compared to other albumins.

Application

Albumin from porcine serum has been used:
  • as a non-hazardous protein to test its effect on T84 polarized intestinal monolayers and Caco2 polarized intestinal monolayers barrier integrity in trans-Epithelial Electrical Resistance (TEER) assay
  • to test its effect on the human intestinal epithelial cell lines
  • to test its interaction with the biodegradable ester-functionalized gemini surfactant 16-E2-16 using ultraviolet (UV)-visible and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy measurements

Biochem/physiol Actions

Albumin binds to many blood associated proteins. Porcine serum albumin (PSA) is regarded as a major allergen. PSA is used in the immunosensors, molecularly imprinted nanogels (MIP-NGs) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) protein-based detection for assessing contamination, especially in meat products.

Preparation Note

Prepared from albumin (A2764).
