チアゾールオレンジはペプチド核酸に結合し、均質な溶液中の標的核酸を検出することができます。予測される物理特性と、網状赤血球の良好に染色する生物学的染色特性の両方を持つ色素であることから、網状赤血球分析用の色素として考えられています。核酸、特にRNAに結合すると、蛍光が非常に増大し、また高い量子収率を示します。沈殿することはなく、また生細胞の細胞膜を透過することができます。
