インタ-ロイキン-13はマウスおよびヒトの活性化Th2細胞が産生する多面発現性サイトカインです。IL-13は主として非グリコシル化タンパク質として分泌される132残基のタンパクで、分子量は10,000ダルトンです。マウスIL-13遺伝子の4.3kb DNAフラグメントはシ-クエンシングがなされており、第11染色体上に単一コピ-として存在します。ヒトIL-13遺伝子の4.6 kb DNA は第5染色体上に単一コピ-として存在します。IL-13はB細胞の増殖を誘導し、またIgEのスイッチングを誘導します。ヒト赤白血病細胞株TF-1を用いた培養液において、ヒト, マウスのIL-13遺伝子産物の増殖活性評価を行っています。
IL-13 is known to be overexpressed in glioblastoma tumors and cell lines. Elevated IL-13 expression is also observed in parasitic infections. It stimulates fibrosis in many infectious diseases, and acts as a profibrogenic factor.
