Derivatization to Stable, Readily Volatile States |
Acylation derivatization reagents increase the detection sensitivity of substances that are typically unsuitable for chromatographic investigation. Such substances are often those that are readily decomposed or exhibit low volatility. Derivatization converts these compounds to stable, volatile states – ready for analysis.
The acylation reagent, trifluoroacetic anhydride (TFAA), is used to acylate amines to amides, or alcohols to esters, thereby making them suitable for analysis via gas chromatography (GC).
