General description

Peptone Water is a culture medium used for cultivating non-fastidious organisms, studying carbohydrate fermentation patterns, and performing the indole test. The peptone in Peptone Water is rich in tryptophan, which is essential for indole production. The presence of indole can be detected using either Kovacs or Ehrlich reagent. Additionally, this medium serves as a base for carbohydrate fermentation studies by adding sugars and indicators such as bromocresol purple, phenol red, or bromothymol blue, allowing researchers to analyze fermentation capabilities effectively. Peptone Water contains peptone as a source of carbon, nitrogen, vitamins and minerals. Sodium chloride maintains the osmotic equilibrium of the medium.

Preparation Note

蒸留水1 Lに15 gを添加します。十分に攪拌し、最終容器に移します。121°Cで15分間オートクレーブ処理して滅菌します。オートクレーブ処理後の滅菌溶液を添加する場合、溶解に使用する水の容量を溶液の容量分減らします。
