Merck offers a broad range of HPLC columns that are fully compliant with USP (United States Pharmacopoeia) specifications. L1 USP columns are described as octadecyl silane, chemically linked to porous silica or ceramic micro particles. Our high-quality L1 USP products deliver reliable, reproducible results – time after time. A perfect example is: Purospher® STAR RP-18 endcapped (3 µm).
Purospher® STAR RP-18 endcapped UHPLC columns ideal for high-throughput screening and quality control analyses, as well as process monitoring, method development, and LC-MS applications. Due to their balanced selectivity, Purospher® STAR RP-18 endcapped UHPLC columns deliver tailing-free chromatograms for a broad range of demanding separations.
Purospher® STAR RP-18 endcapped UHPLC columns work incredibly quickly to deliver the ultimate in resolution, performance, and sensitivity. Available as 2 µm and 3 µm particulate silica, these columns accelerate separations 10 times and consume up to 90% less solvent. In particular, the 3 µm columns are perfect for difficult samples as they avoid clogging and backpressure. Thanks to their excellent performance and high pH stability, Purospher® STAR RP-18 endcapped UHPLC allow an extremely wide range of applications. These Hibar® HR UHPLC columns can also withstand applications up to 600 bar.
In routine HPLC laboratories, standard columns of 4.6 mm internal diameter (i.d.) are used for most applications. On average, such laboratories require 60 liters of solvent per year. The solvents used are mostly acetonitrile, methanol, isopropanol, hexane, and/or aqueous buffers. As a result, they generate 60 liters of mixed organic and aqueous waste annually. The use of Purospher® STAR RP-18 endcapped columns with a 2.1 mm i.d. helps you minimize waste as they reduce solvent consumption by up to 90%. In addition, the columns allow 10 times faster separations.
