Pregnane X receptor (PXR) is a nuclear receptor that displays similarity to PPAR and RXR. PXR is activated by a large number of endogenous and exogenous chemicals including steroids and antibiotics. One of the key roles of PXR is the induction of CYP3A4, a P450 enzyme involved in drug metabolism.
