      DescriptionPurified mouse monoclonal antibody generated by immunizing mice with the specified immunogen and fusing splenocytes with NS-1 mouse myeloma cells (see application references). Recognizes the ~100 kDa large T antigen, the ~55 kDa middle T antigen, and the ~22 kDa small T antigen of polyoma virus.
      BackgroundPolyoma virus T-Ag (Ab-4) is a broadly reactive monoclonal antibody which recognizes the large, middle and small T antigens in polyoma virus transformed or infected cells. Polyoma virus is a small DNA tumor virus capable of lytically infecting mouse cells in culture and of transforming other rodent cells (rat and hamster fibroblasts, predominantly). The "early region" of polyoma virus DNA codes for three major polypeptides. These proteins have been designated large T antigen (~100 kDa), middle T antigen (~55 kDa) and small T antigen (~22 kDa). These large, middle, and small T antigens share N-terminal amino acid sequences. However, because the middle T antigen mRNA is spliced into a different reading frame from the large T antigen at the C-terminal portion of the two proteins, they exhibit distinct differences in cellular location and function.
