      Background InformationHyaluronan synthase 3 (HAS3) is one of three enzymes, located at the plasma membrane, that synthesizes the glycosaminoglycan hyaluronan. Hyaluronan is involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, angiogenesis, and tumor development, among other cellular processes. Hyaluronan synthase 3 creates the low—molecular-weight hyaluronan, whereas hyaluronan synthase 1 and 2 create high molecular weight isoforms.
