DescriptionRabbit polyclonal antibody supplied as undiluted serum. Recognizes the ~40 kDa p40 protein.
BackgroundAmong the more recently identified p53 homologues are p73 and p40/p63/p73L/p51/CUSP/KET. Existing as two splice variants with molecular weights of ~51 kDa and ~72 kDa, the p40 gene product is essential for normal epithelial development. The gene maps to the distal arm of chromosome 3q and is mutated in a diverse number of human cancers. The p40 gene is expressed in skeletal muscle, placenta, mammary gland, prostate, trachea, thymus, salivary gland, uterus, heart and lung. The p40 protein has the ability to transactivate many p53 reporter genes and also has the ability to induce apoptosis.
